TPPP Episode 73 : No ICE, ICE baby

I flew solo this week as I didn’t have a guest. The biggest thing that happened was that I got SIX new patrons! I have to say that I’m truly humbled. They are Nathan Dickey, host of A Leap of Doubt Podcast and Trolling with Logic; my good friend Jeanne Ikerd; long-time listener and quizmaster extraordinaire Susan Turpin; blogger and faithful listener Kim Perkins; one-time guest and my brother from another mother Kevin Watson; and my first $10 patron, Rob Schreck! That means he gets a t-shirt! I thank y’all so much for your support. It really means a lot.

The show is me talking about the immigration fiasco occurring on the border, and the evil influence of the Trump administration as well as that modern-day Gestapo ICE. I lay out the whole situation as well as the back story behind it. I then offer up my predictions as to what will happen. Let’s just say the picture ain’t rosy. I also talk about some stories where Trump lackeys get some karma dished in their direction, which is always welcome news to my mind.

I also discovered a new show, Kevin and Benedict, a show of which I recently became a patron. They do two shows, the main one is This Week In News, and then there is This Week In History. They are both great shows, and I encourage you to check them out. Enjoy!

TPPP Episode 61 : Skepticon 10 Recap

Welcome to another thrilling edition of The Triple Po! I attended Skepticon 10, which was November 10 – 12 in Springfield, MO. I had a lot of fun, and I learned so much from the workshops and speakers. I got to meet so many cool people, both old friends and new faces. I want to thank you the organizers for putting it on, and I look forward to attending the next Skepticon, which I found out will be in St. Louis next time, which is closer to me!

For the palaver, I did some mini-interviews with six people : blogger, activist and friend Jessica Xiao; volunteer at the Humanist Service Corps Jude Lane; blogger and activist Heina Dadabhoy; blogger, activist, sometime podcaster and Queen of the Outrage Brigade Stephanie Zvan; Organizer and activist Monette Richards; and Founder and President of Black Nonbelievers Inc., and one of my favorite people Mandisa Thomas. It was such a pleasure and honor to speak to them. All of them have been on the show previously except Monette Richards, and that will be remedied soon as I am interviewing her next week. The show is longer than usual, but I felt that getting all these voices out there was important, and I hope I think y’all will agree.

TPPP Episode 57 : Walking the Walk

The Triple Po has returned from a one week hiatus. I had a lot going on, so I apologize, but now I am back! On the pre-ramble, I talk about my experience at Oktoberfest in Nashville with friend and former guest William and their boyfriend Dan. We had a great time drinking beer, as well as seeing street preachers and checking out the various and sundry tents selling their wares. I also talk about something a little less cheery, that being a White Supremacist protest that is coming up in Shelbyville, TN, on October 28th, and perhaps one in Murfreesboro. There has already been a counterprotest that has emerged, and I will be going to it. We have to show these assholes that we’re not going to stand by and let them spew their hate unchallenged.

On the palaver, I speak to one of my favorite people, Mandisa Thomas, who most of y’all probably already know as the founder and president of Black Nonbelievers Inc. We talk about her organization and how it was founded. We also talk about the need for allies to step up and get involved. Another subject we hit on is some of the negative feedback she has gotten from some of those in the Black community, including a confrontation at a conference where someone verbally attacked her. She also gives a statement regarding the travesty at Mythicist Milwaukee. There are plenty of other things that we discuss but you will have to listen to find out! Mandisa definitely walks the walk, and she is the closest things I have to a hero.
