TPPP Episode 86 : Life After God

Thanks once again for joining me on the show that your mother warned you about : The Podunk Polymath Podcast! This week, I speak to activist, podcast host, humanist chaplain, speaker, and National Organizing Manager for Secular Student Alliance Ryan Bell. As a minister Ryan decided to go a year without God, and became an atheist as result. He kept a blog about his experience, and he has spoken many times about his experience. He also has a podcast named Life After God, as well a website, both of which he uses to talk about and help those coming out of religion. He is also a social justice advocate who is not shy about speaking his mind about those issues he feels strongly about. We talked about his journey to atheism, his a activism, and his podcast. We then get into the reluctance of some in the atheist community to speak about social justice. Somehow we end up talking about politics and the shitshow that is the Trump Administration. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I think you will too.

TPPP Episode 63 : Alix Goes South

Welcome back to The Triple Po! I have returned from The Native American Slaughter Day break with another spectacular episode. On the pre-ramble, I talk about the travesty that is the #TaxScamBill. It is probably one of the most blatant giveaways to the the wealthy and corporations in American history, and it was passed with no debate and not even completely written when it was passed. It still requires reconciliation with the House to hammer out the final bill, and Democrats may be able to soften the blow a tad, but for the most part the middle class and poor of this country are getting royally screwed. So if you voted for Republican, hey, fuck you!

On the palaver, I speak worth activist, blogger, speaker, and Zen master Alix Jules. We talk about the unique challenges the South faces in implementing change in both politics and social justice. As a New York transplant to Texas, he has an insight into the unique challenges our region faces. We also discuss how to get people who are in other parts of country to understand our plight here. Ultimately, you just have to come and visit! You’ll uh then, trust me. It was a very enlightening talk with an awesome guy. I think y’all will thoroughly enjoy it.

TPPP Episode 47 : True Neutral

Welcome to another exciting installment of The Podunk Polymath Podcast! On the pre-ramble this week, it’s all good news as I read a very kind message from a friend and listener; an iTunes review with a little pizazz; new patrons; and an appearance on Trolling With Logic! I also remind y’all to get your tickets to the upcoming Secular Saturday Conference, and I also announce the next Atheists at the Pub on August 5th. It’s a cornucopia of coolness!

On the palaver this week, I speak to podcaster, friend, and Canadian Cory Johnston. We talk about his main gig as a co-host of Brainstorm Podcast, as well as his side project, The Hardcore Skeptic Examines. We talk about his focus on social justice, and his attempts to look at both sides of the issue, with sometimes less than optimal results, especially from the anti-SJW side. It’s a great conversation about social justice and the role it plays in our community, as well as the sometimes frustrating lack of honest discourse. I enjoyed speaking with him, and I think y’all will enjoy listening.

The post-ramble is the same shameless self-promotion as usual, but with the added twist of the mention of the upcoming one year anniversary of the podcast on August 15th. I only reason I talked about it in this segment is because of my notoriously bad memory. If y’all want to give me any audio or written messages, good or bad, to play or read on the anniversary episode, you can email, message, or call the phone-in line. I really hope I get a lot of messages because I always like hearing from y’all!

TPPP Episode 30 : Intersections

Welcome to another episode of the Triple Po! On the pre-ramble this week, I talk about how some redneck Trump supporter at a rally in Nashville thought it would be an awesome idea to wear t-shirt that extolled the virtues of slavery. Someone got a picture of this guy, and Facebook did its thing and found out who it was. Needless to say, the vast majority of commenters were not amused. I also remind my listeners of the impending approach of NaNoCon 2017. It will be coming March 18th, and tickets will are $15 up until the day of the event, and $20 at the door, or until all the tickets sell out. Don’t wait and miss out on the greatest secular event in Middle Tennessee!

On the palaver I speak to writer and activist Jessica Xiao. We talk about intersectional feminism, as well a peripheral issues such as racism, White privilege, the difficulty of getting people to take criticism, and so much more. Jessica is a tireless advocate for social justice, and she is a well-spring of knowledge. She may think she rambles, but her mind is so full of knowledge that it’s no wonder she wants to share it with everyone! I hope you learn as much as I did!

TPPP Episode 18 : Social Justice with Sincere

Greetings, and welcome to another episode your mother told you not to listen to, The Podunk Polymath Podcast! This week on the pre-ramble, I talk about the news that a CIA report has confirmed that Russia was complicit in hacking the Clinton emails and releasing them to Wikileaks, and how Obama has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter. I express my fear of the outcome, and what can be done if the election is shown to be compromised. I also talk about a great book I read “The PC Lie : How American Voters Decided I Didn’t Matter” by Marissa McCool. It is a stinging indictment of those who voted for Trump and how she fears for her very existence as a transgender woman, as well as other topics, such as what we can do to stand up for those who are most vulnerable to the policies that will be enacted by the Trump administration. Finally, I introduce a song composed and performed by two-time guest and friend of the show Matthew O’Neil named “Atheistmas”, and I play it during the break! I think y’all will really enjoy it!

On the palaver I speak with Social Justice Coordinator for American Humanist Association, blogger, activist, and one of my favorite writers Sincere Kirabo. We talk about social justice, humanism, his involvement at the DAPL protest camp, as well as how we met at a conference in East Tennessee and how I took him to his first Sonic! Sincere is an extremely passionate advocate for social justice and humanism, and I was honored to have him on the show. Thank y’all for listening, and I hope you enjoy the show!
