The Brainstorm Podcast

TPPP Episode 102 : Northern Exposure

This week on The Triple Po, we have as our guest that kooky redneck Canuck Cory Johnston, friend of the show and co-host of The Brainstorm Podcast. We talk Canadian politics and news, including the firing of long time hockey announcer Don Cherry; the state of affairs in Saskatchewan and Alberta; the recent federal elections in Canada; Trudeau and blackface; Canadian football; and the Canadian health care system. At the end of the show, we somehow managed to briefly discuss Obama and his comments about being too woke and instead being a neoliberal, centrist piece of shit. Or something like that. We had a lot of fun.

TPPP Episode 66 : #metoo

It’s time once again for another installment of The Podunk Polymath Podcast! This week in the pre-ramble, I speak about more Trump shenanigans, namely his button measuring contest with North Korea, the release of a new book about the unmitigated disaster that is the Trump administration, and finally an op-ed in the New York Times by the organization that released the Steele dossier. All in all, things are looking pretty bad for Our Orange Overlord, though I daresay Congressional Republicans will prevent any substantive charges from touching Trump.

On the palaver this week, I talk to one of the co-hosts of Brainstorm Podcast, Angela Reddekopp. We have a frank and in-depth discussion about the origins of the #metoo movement, its effects both positive and negative, the backlash, and what we can do as individuals to keep the conversation going, most especially having men talking and doing something to monitor and modify their behavior as well as other men. It’s not always an easy discussion, but it’s one that is vitally important if we are serious about changing this culture of seeing women as property and dangerously toxic masculinity.

TPPP Episode 51 : Reasonable Discussion Of Gentrification

It’s time once again for another exciting episode of The Triple Po! In the pre-ramble I give a synopsis of what happened at the second iteration of Atheists at the Pub. Spoiler : It was fucking awesome! I then mention my drunken appearance on Brainstorm Podcast, and especially my rant about an article regarding trans people and dating. Also, friend and previous guest on the show Natalie Newell was on The Scathing Atheist to talk about her documentary ‘Science Moms’.

For the palaver of, I have host of Reasonable Risk podcast to talk about gentrification. We talk the definition of gentrification, asking well as the pros and cons. We then offer up ways that a balance might be achieved between the needs of developers and those people who are being harmed by the effects of gentrification.

On the post-ramble I apologize for the shitty sound quality of my side of the interview, which almost certainly a result of the laptop mic somehow being uses as opposed to my regular microphone. And once again because I have a shitty memory and I forgot to mention the fact in the pre-ramble, I mention that the show logo was spruced up a bit, just in time for the #OneYearPodunkiversary. Speaking of that, I also forgot to mention in the pre-ramble that the one-year anniversary live show is coming up on August 12th. Make sure you ‘call in’ via Google Hangouts. It should be a lot of fun. There might even be some Facebook karaoke involved! Thanks for listening, and I hope y’all enjoy the show!

TPPP Episode 47 : True Neutral

Welcome to another exciting installment of The Podunk Polymath Podcast! On the pre-ramble this week, it’s all good news as I read a very kind message from a friend and listener; an iTunes review with a little pizazz; new patrons; and an appearance on Trolling With Logic! I also remind y’all to get your tickets to the upcoming Secular Saturday Conference, and I also announce the next Atheists at the Pub on August 5th. It’s a cornucopia of coolness!

On the palaver this week, I speak to podcaster, friend, and Canadian Cory Johnston. We talk about his main gig as a co-host of Brainstorm Podcast, as well as his side project, The Hardcore Skeptic Examines. We talk about his focus on social justice, and his attempts to look at both sides of the issue, with sometimes less than optimal results, especially from the anti-SJW side. It’s a great conversation about social justice and the role it plays in our community, as well as the sometimes frustrating lack of honest discourse. I enjoyed speaking with him, and I think y’all will enjoy listening.

The post-ramble is the same shameless self-promotion as usual, but with the added twist of the mention of the upcoming one year anniversary of the podcast on August 15th. I only reason I talked about it in this segment is because of my notoriously bad memory. If y’all want to give me any audio or written messages, good or bad, to play or read on the anniversary episode, you can email, message, or call the phone-in line. I really hope I get a lot of messages because I always like hearing from y’all!

TPPP Episode 4 : Not Another Political Podcast

This week on The Podunk Polymath Podcast, I announce that was on The Brainstorm Podcast and most likely made a complete fool out of myself. Next, a pre-ramble regarding the ongoing saga of White butthurt regarding Colin Kaepernick, and a meeting that altered his stance somewhat, both figuratively and literally. As a last-minute addendum, I talk about a protest that is not getting much press coverage against a pipeline being a built through North Dakota and nearby states by Native American tribes. The company has set dogs and pepper sprayed protesters, and the pipeline itself is dangerous and is a recipe for disaster.

For the palaver I have the bi-national duo from Not Another Atheist Podcast, Jen and Keith. We talk about Hillary and her strengths and weaknesses as a candidate. Of course, there is Jen’s trademark New York-accented tirades and Keith’s almost total lack of contribution to the conversation. It’s a funny, cringe-inducing, and occasionally insightful conversation that’s sure to at least make y’all shake your head in disbelief. I hope y’all enjoy this episode of The Triple-Po!
